I thought the Obi/Mitchell collision was a block. Mitchell was still moving.

As we have discussed, the NCAA redrew the line between a charge and a block for this season. Previously, the defender had to be set and in a legal guarding position BEFORE the offensive player made ANY upward movement as part of her shot. I believe the new definition is that the defender must be set and in a legal guarding position before any forward or upward movement by the offensive player.

I dislike the change. It's hard enough to play defense already. The game has become a shooting contest more than the timeless battle between an offensive player and her defender(s).

But to defend the call, the refs had been making that decision the same way all game long, including the last two times which went Penn's way. Coaches often say that they can accept any line on the block/charge continuum, as long as the officials are consistent. And this crew was.

The refs working the Columbia/Harvard game just made the same call. I'm glad. It's too hard to play defense as the rule is written in black and white in the book.

I'm a little surprised it's not louder at Levien right now (halftime of Game Two). I thought it would be the biggest party on campus in years. Another data point when considering whether the ILT should be at a neutral site.

Hear hear my old boy! At the risk of sounding obtuse, I don’t understand why Levien is not louder. Considering the diaspora of the fan base, one would expect there to be a unique bond leading to a more rousing coterie. One would have expected young lads squiring their dates to create a raucous celebration of two fine squads. Dare I say, youth is wasted on the young?
