I was listening to the game on the radio, heard the Yale songs in the background, and figured the Yale Band WAS there.

Why they were not there, I don't know.

The Yale Precision Marching Band couldn’t be bothered to get to NYC for Ivy Madness either (I believe Brown, Cornell and Princeton all had their bands there while Yale had some nice kids from Hillhouse High in New Haven) so I doubt it was a money thing. It is Spring break but you’d expect some group of current and alum band members could have roused themselves. Kind of pathetic, IMO.

Agree, this is weak. Guess the NCAA Tournament doesn't mean as much to them.

Definitely not a money thing. A high school band played for Yale at the tournament in Milwaukee ('22) and the University of North Florida played for Yale at the tournament in Jacksonville ('19).

By the way, if you've been to a Yale sporting event in the last 15 years, that a Yale band does not travel across the country during spring break is the furthest thing from a surprise. I think it reflects well on the university that it plans for a local fill-in, seeks one out, and (seemingly) treats them well while giving them a fun opportunity.

Bucknell "rented" Northern Iowa's band for free pizza the day that they upset Kansas in the first round. It was a great story--the UNI band loved every second of it!

Also, Yale doesn't have the best reputation for decorum at basketball games, so it's probably just as well that the band wasn't there.
