It is open and subject to tide. Wind vs tide gets whitecap nasty in a hurry. Come down from NYC the day before, practice, eat in the midshipmen's enormous mess hall, (that was an experience!), bunk in the spare accomodations of the visitor bunkhouse, get up at crack o'dawn to face the wind n' waves.
