Rachel McCarron, who is certainly a decent softball pitcher, started Tuesday's game for Dartmouth against Harvard. She did fine, but lost 4-2.

She started the first game of the doubleheader for the Big Green against Princeton today. Lost 8-4.

She started the second game of the doubleheader for the Big Green against Princeton today. Lost 11-1.

She was the only pitcher to take the circle for all those games for Dartmouth.

I'm getting the nagging feeling that Jensin Hall may be injured...

:(

Clearly must be an issue of availability for DC pitchers. She went again today, losing a close one 3-2. Pitched 16 innings in 2 days.

Dartmouth did have a freshman pitcher last year (or year before) who showed promise, but ended up leaving the team.

So yeah-- without Hall, it's just McCarroll as the only pitcher on the Dartmouth softball team. She's decent, but I can't believe that it's fair to expect her to be the ONLY pitcher on the team.

I can only assume that Hall is sick or injured...

HALL IS BACK AND DOING HER STUFF!!!

https://dartmouthsports.com/news/2024/4/21/softball-hall-strikes-out-11-big-green-secure-series-sweep-of-cornell.aspx

Article notes that she missed two weeks, but doesn't say what the issue was.

Hopefully we aren't too far behind in the Ivy race and she can carry us to the playoff at least.

I realized yesterday how much helmet technology has improved today.

My daughter plays for her school's middle school softball team. They had a game yesterday against a pitcher who reminded me a lot of the Charlie Sheen character in "Major League" She threw with plenty of gas, but the ball was always headed lord-knows-where.

Sure enough, my daughter took a fastball right in the head in her second at bat. I thought "damn, that looked nasty" and started wondering where the nearest ER was.

She just dropped her bat and ran to first as if nothing had happened.

I'm not sure the same would have happened if she were wearing a helmet from my baseball days. I remember getting beaned a few times, and I always had to at least shake off the cobwebs...
