Columbia is a legitimate Championship contender. John Poppe, a very good new coach and who bleeds Columbia blue, has inherited a relatively strong program from Bagnoli. He will take it to the next level and quickly. In fact, week one proved he already has done so in beating a ranked opponent.

Cornell also made a good coaching hire in Swanstrom, but he inherited a program in shambles after more than a decade of neglect. They will remain cellar dwellers this year , but are still capable of the occasional upset, just like Archers teams were. Now even more so.

Princeton surprised me with the very poor showing. But they can’t be counted out yet. Brown is slowly moving in the right direction, but are at best middle of the pact.

Top tier remain Yale, Harvard and Dartmouth, with Penn and Columbia nipping at their heels.

Here is my ranking:

1. Yale
2. Harvard
3. Dartmouth
4. Penn
5. Columbia
6. Princeton
7. Brown
8. Cornell
