Perry's not going anywhere. The season is disappointing, but he is (as pointed out) a legend, he has improved the team over where it was when he started, and Brown is very slow to discharge alumni coaches (see the men's hockey record over the past dozen or so years). There's reason for optimism on the offense -- Murphy looked pretty good in a mop-up role today, and the 1st-year tailback is excellent. The defense obviously could use a shake-up -- it looked a bit better earlier this year, but, for the past few weeks, we have not stopped anyone with consistency. The loss of Isaiah Reed hurts, but this is well beyond the injury to one player.

Perry has had sufficient time to prepare a more competitive team. And to date, he has failed. Many years ago Billy Almon, the first man selected in the baseball draft and a Brown grad, was given the job of coaching the hapless baseball team. Almon was a great player who had a good pro career. But as a coach, he was a dud. After four miserable years he was let go. So there is precedent for getting rid of an alum who is incompetent. And Grace Calhoun was hired to get rid of non performers, so Perry isn't exactly on solid ground. Another year or two of no progress and he should be ripe for the taking.
