Inquisitor, that story about Pat Summitt, if true, is awesome. Well, if it's good enough for an SEC team, why shouldn't Columbia consider it?

I see Megan as the full traditional head coach for the Lion men's team. She runs all the practices, leads recruiting and does all the game day management.

She would be the CEO, as you term it, of the women's team. Having managed the women's assistants, she would know what she can delegate to them and when she might need to step in.

You are correct that this would be ground breaking, affecting all of women's basketball and all women's coaches. Bill Tierney left Princeton for Denver in part to grow the game west of the Mississippi. Buddy Teevens was the first football coach in America to hire women assistants.

Megan would be following in that grand Ivy League tradition.

Harvard's senior guard, Harmony Turner just scored a school record 44 points to lead Harvard to an exciting 70-67 comeback victory over Princeton in the semi-final of the Ivy League Championship Tournament. Harvard will now face Columbia tomorrow night for the Ivy League Title. There is little doubt in my mind that regardless whether Columbia or Harvard wins the Ivy League, Columbia, Harvard and Princeton will all be playing in the NCAA tournament.

Doing a little digging around the non-ivy teams hovering around the last four in/first four out line, the principal contrast seems to be blow-outs — the three Ivies together have been essentially competitive in every game with every opponenent. The other contenders have had nights when they’ve been utterly embarrassed. Not quite sure how you treat that in committee, but the chances of getting a bum game, even against a 1 or 2 seed, from any of CHP is basically zero.

Excellent research, joisey. That game-in, game-out competitiveness from our top three teams is one reason why their NET ratings are so high. We'll see if that matters tomorrow evening. The selection committees are comfortable moving the goal posts as needed.

An Observer: According to what occurs during the next three weeks , Columbia and Coach Griffith may have to make a pivotal decision. For Columbia, in order to keep one of the better coaches, they might have to pay a premium. As for Megan Griffith, I suspect other schools will “out bid” Columbia. Columbia’s ace in the hole could be offering her an a first if it’s kind opportunity opportunity- coaching the men’s team. If this plays out this way, then she’ll have a her own pivotal decision: Take the money and run or remain in Morning Side Highlights and make coaching history. If the latter happens, then the world will be watching and she’ll be a coaching inspiration.

I don't know if anyone here has the particulars of Coach Griffith's contract. I'm sure if she wanted and the offer from elsewhere large enough, she could try and break the remaining years (if any) on her contract with CU.

But it may be premature to think she is automatically going to be weighing options, or that it is incumbent on CU to make her this hypothetical offer AO has posited. Nothing wrong with either speculating or conceiving of that kind of role; it just may not be an automatic at this point.

What's to say she is actually satisfied with the current state of affairs? She seems to be recruiting stronger and stronger classes, she is obviously getting the support from the school, why would she not want to stay in her current role and see if she can't perfect the trajectory?

Despite the slings and arrows of outrageous misfortune which certain external actors seem determined to suffer upon the university, the sense is that the athletic department has things well in hand. As has been pointed out here and on the other boards, a couple of key recruits, and some dynamic coaching, ala Griffith and Poppe, could have the men's BBT back in the swing in reasonably short order.

How about them apples?
