Columbia just defeated Princeton 9-2 to win its three-game weekend series with Princeton and take sole possession of first place in the Ivy League. The Lions got great pitching over the weekend from all three of its starters--Joe Sheets, Jagger Edwards and Thomas Santana. As usual, the Lions offense was excellent throughout the line-up with senior Anton Lazits leading the way with a three run home run. Columbia's Coach Brett Boretti picked up his landmark 200th victory this weekend. I have watched him coach Columbia for years and he isjust outstanding in every respect.

The commentators on the broadcast were excellent, far better than what I have come to expect. I hadn’t realized that we have been playing without three starters, Jeon, Selinsky and the third escapes me. Selinsky may be back but Jeon is out for the season, we were told. One interesting footnote: over the weekend—while our pitching was excellent, our game 2 offense was pretty much stifled by some very good pitching.

The third name you are seeking is probably senior hurler Andy Leon who is out for the season with an injury. As almost always, Columbia's starting line-up is downright frightening from start to bottom with a very nice mix of veterans and first years. Seniors Anton Lazits, Griffin Palfrey and Skye Selinsky, as well as junior Cole Fellows are among the top hitters in the Ivy League. The freshman class is also very talented with three starters, namely, Jackson Brewer, Tate Vogler and Ben Fishel. The three starting pitchers, Joe Sheets, Jagger Edwards and Tom Santana all pitched very well against Princeton.
