 The 1975 NCAA tournament had 32 teams. The 2026 NCAA tournament has 64 (68 if you include the play-in games). Thus one might say the 1975 NIT was essentially equivalent to the lower half of the 2026 NCAA field.

None of this should be taken as diminishing Columbia's win especially in this NIL era. They look to be formidable in the IL next season.

The WBIT had 32 teams. The 1975 NIT had only 16.

Columbia had to play an extra game to win its title.
