How can Jaden Craig be a unanimous pick at QB, but Liam O'Brien is also named to the First Team?

This has happened before. What's the deal?

Participation Trophy mindset at work.

"You played well and you're a senior, so even though we all agree another guy in the league did your job better than you, you get to be First Team, too! A-Plusses for everybody!"

Gentlemen; with all due respect, no one should quarrel with the choices of the best offensive and defensive player of the year. Mr. Pitsenberger carried the team on his back throughout the season and hopefully through the playoffs Mr.kamara changed so many games through the season with his superlatively play and rightfully should be the captain of her squad next year.

Gentlemen; as an adjunct, how does Dante Reno not reach the level of a team achievement accolades of at least second team or honorable mention. Whoever voted don't know what they're doing. He deserved much better.

Craig, O'Brien, Saunier, or Murphy?

If it makes Reno feel better, Owen Zalc got stiffed, too.

... I think Yale should ask Nick Crawford to return his 1991 first-team All Ivy placement and give it to the second-teamer (sophomore Jay Fiedler).

Crawford had something like 25 passing yards all year (although he was a very effective I-Bone runner). And of course, Dartmouth was the 1991 undisputed Ivy champion.

What say you, Yale Nation?

1) Rushing stats are deservedly relevant when you're breaking all-time 1-AA QB rushing records and near the top of the national 61-AA rushing stats, regardless of position. Was Fiedler near the top of 1-AA passing stats in '91? I'll hang up and listen.

2) Fiedler won Ivy RoY that year. All-Ivy has always had a spread-the-love/everyone-gets-a-trophy mentality to it (more on that in a bit), so I suspect that it was a case of "there's two notable QB's, we can give the sophomore the Rookie award and the senior 1st team, and they both get to brag at their reunions."

3) On the "everyone gets a trophy" topic, it wouldn't shock me if this year's voters decided that since he's a sophomore, Reno will have more chances left to get gold stars on his forehead, so "let's give the spot to the junior instead."

4) Total Offense stats (takes both rushing AND passing into account) - Reno's total > Saunier's total.

5) Again - Saunier was the worst of all 8 starting QB's in passing efficiency. Second team All-Ivy? Good thing he set the FCS QB rushing record this year to make up for it. Oh, wait...

5) Maybe head-to-head was the only criteria considered. Saunier did win that by 1 point. Good thing performance vs. Brown wasn't the only criteria. ;-)

No Fiedler was not at the top of I-AA passing stats in 1991. But that's because Teevens made him hand the ball off a lot to I-AA rushing leader, First-Team All-American, and Bushnell Cup winner Al Rosier.

Between Rosier and Fiedler, Dartmouth had one of the best balanced offense attacks of all-time. Honestly, I can't even remember who our punter was that season...

But Fiedler could run. Indeed, I'd venture to say that he most likely had a higher yards per carry average than Crawford did.

In any event, enjoy your Thanksgiving!!!

Nice story about a great RB somehow making a QB worthy of an All-Ivy selection. Sounds a little like Pitsenberger and Reno, no? ;-)

Bottom line, my opinion of the All-Ivy team is -- and has been -- fairly low, for many years. Grade inflation and decisions of convenience seem to matter more than accurately recognizing the best of the best. It is what it is..

Enjoy your Thanksgiving, as well!

Looking forward to Saturday. I'm apprehensive about the outcomes, but am hoping that the league can show up the critics with a 2-0 result.

I have no issue with the offensive and defensive players of the year, but my question is this, how is that the entire first team (not including specialists) came from just 4 schools, D,H,Y, and PN? Is this saying that B, Cr, Col, and Pr didn't have a single player worthy of first team? No doubt it is possible, but it is highly unlikely. Being on a losing team is the kiss of death for post season recognition. If you are a top Olineman but your team is generally weak...you have no chance of being first team even if you deserve it. Simply B.S.

Funnily enough there were no top olinemen from those schools this year...

Just an observation.
