So what is going on?

Princeton behind by 3 Tds and runs the ball 7 consecutive times?

Very disappointed.

Princeton coach is too smart to make a decision like this.

My take is that Surace saw three score lead as insurmountable within the time left. Defense was already gassed, as Harvard seems to pummel defenses in the first half then score a lot of points in the second. P has had enough injuries on defense already with no need to add more. H will in all likelihood go undefeated but if not, 1 loss does not put P out of contention. They have improved week to week and have the tools to win out if they keep it up. Just my opinion.

Agree 100%. I didn't like it but I understand it. In fact, that can be the only reason why you run the ball as much as they did. Harvard is elite and there's no sense beating up the D when the "gassed" is an understatement. End of the 2nd quarter mistake killed them but it may have not mattered. Good thing is that the Tigers found their QB for the rest of the year. Keep Hipa on the bench.

I have seen little to nothing of other teams. But DC seems quite good. Today Harvard was very good, a complete team. Although the score was decisive even not counting the gift we gave them at the end of the first half, they didn’t look quite like a dominating team. We are an improving team but not Harvard’s sternest test yet. Based on what little I can glean from its play thus far, DC has a decent chance against H.

H looked to be in a “prevent” defense. While I was not mainly focused on the secondary, they were playing 5 DBs the two times I focused on them. It was clear H was willing, up 3 TDs with 9 mimutes left, to let us eat up clock on the ground even if we did score in that possession. It left room for our RBs to gain ground. We mixed a couple of passes in, but we never scored in the second half anyway.

Great win for Yale, they dug in deep. They controlled both lines of offense and defense. The defensive backfield kept the plays in front of them. The linebackers plugged the gaps.
The run and pass blocking kept the offense going Pitsenberger was a beast, Dahl was good in relief. Dante, managed the game well. Kept everything together. Each game he is getting better and better. Yales receivers can play with anyone. This team is dangerous.

I suspect that Princeton was calling RPOs and Harvard kept showing the look that dictated “R”.

I recently heard an interview with a B1G Offensive Coordinator who was asked, why wouldn’t you design every running play with a pass-tag and vice versa? The response: “At some point, you can’t let the defense dictate what you’re going to run.” To me, I think that is what was at play here. Princeton’s 4- and 2- minute offenses had options that Harvard’s D schemed into the slowest possible progress.

At the end of the day

Princeton had to play a perfect game to make it competitive

They did so for -3 quarters then Harvard’s dominating
O and D lines sealed the deal

Until proven otherwise Harvard is a step above
everyone else

Game next week against Dartmouth will be worth watching

You are spot on.

Harvard really controlled the line of scrimmage and to an extent I hadn't anticipated. Princeton ran the ball 31 times for only 98 yards, but 54 of those yards were on the final Princeton possession when - leading by 21 - Harvard was in a prevent defense. On the other side, the Crimson ran for 259 yards. That's 6.3 yds/carry to 3.2 for the Tigers.

Passing yards were equivalent (P 242 to H 216), but the Crimson sat on their lead and Princeton hit two 51 yarders, one of which was really a beautiful TD pitch and run by Clark.

After seeing his usage limited in the first 3 games, a healthy Bascon is in fine form (13 carries for 101 yards). Gordon continues to impress (6 for 35) and Craig exhibited his running ability in key situations. Bullock seems to be effective as a second half back when the defense is worn down and he can run downhill (7 for 58). He did pull up lame on a late 46 yard run and hope he's ok. Would have been interesting to see a Princeton safety try to pull Bullock at 6'2" 240 lbs down in the open field had Bullock not pulled up.

Overall, I was impressed with the Crimson's superior physicality and ability to contain Princeton weapon Josh Robinson (only 3 receptions for 24 yards).

It should be noted that Craig didn't have a huge game and was off target more often than usual. He missed a wide open dump pass to an open running back early in the first quarter for an easy TD on a drive that the Crimson did not score at all on.

Dartmouth at Harvard next week is huge. If Harvard prevails it would have a 2 game lead over the Big Green + the tiebreaker.

Harvard v Dartmouth series is 3-3 over last 6 years but Harvard has won last 3. The key to the game will be the play in the trenches and I worry that Harvard may have the upper hand there. Harvard offense has not been stopped all year. May be a shootout.

Highly doubtful when they take into account Harvard's strength of schedule.
