In reply to: Ed S. 's message, "Final: Harvard 31 Columbia 14" on 22:48:10 11/07/25 Fri

Is Chase Goodwin the true starter now over Caleb Sanchez now that he's returned from injury?

Columbia proved to be a strong opponent, especially in the second half. Harvard just made the big (and sometimes lucky) plays that mattered, but Columbia battled throughout. Aurich's decision to pull Craig midway through the third quarter up 31-0 and to run the football thereafter may prove to be costly. A 31-14 win is proving to hurt Harvard in the statistical polls thus far, dropping them a slot or two. With #9/#13 Harvard aspiring to crack the top 8 and earn a seed, Aurich's decision not to run up the score any further - something he has been doing all season and which is a vestige of the no postseason Ivy days - could prove costly.

Not taking anything away from Columbia which played tough throughout, but Harvard was up 31-0 with Craig, and was outscored 14-0 without him. It should also be noted that after Craig threw 24 times in the first 40 minutes of play, Harvard didn't attempt a single forward pass under backup Dante Torres in about 20 minutes of clock. Columbia knew Harvard was going to run on every play.

I only mention this because the 'narrow' 17 point margin of victory will likely give the anti-Ivy voters an opportunity to drop Harvard in the polls.

In the meantime, certain statistical polls have Yale moving up into the top 20, while voting polls don't recognize Yale at all.

You seem very worried that Yale will beat Harvard in the finale and H will not make the playoffs. After seeing Harvard play, I would feel very confident as a Harvard fan that they will take care of business vs Yale. And make a good run in the playoffs

John Harvard raises an interesting point. Ivy Football has always been about the brethren, that's why we give participation trophies for a three way tie when an obvious tiebreaker (head-to-head) is ignored. But now you add postseason consideration, an external factor, and running up the score or the margin, has to be considered when you're up 4 TDs in the second half.

And potentially lose a starter to injury in a game long since decided would be enough for coaches not to consider it.
