The Ivy League football season is finally here! Well almost since its only Tuesday. I agree with Harvard Crimson Rule's picks with the exception of Cornell at Albany. While I will cheer for the Big Red, I think the team will be figuring out who can play quarterback. Secondly I am still concerned about our running game and a defense that gave up a lot of yardage last year. Hey you never know. Go Big Red!

It is great to have the season start, hoping for good weather at all of the games.

For the P offense, the development of Hipa at QB is key. I understand he has worked hard in the off-season and I am hoping the year of experience will lend to his growth at the position. At the WR spot, our most experienced player has 13 receptions. So, a lot of stepping up is needed. The OLine suffered some graduation losses and we will have to see how the rotation works out. The strength of the offense probably remains at RB. But with Carr not on the roster now that is a less experienced, versatile group. Clark and Murphy, who both missed games last season, will have to pick up the slack created by Carr's absence and Volker's graduation. To me, overall the offense is a question I hope can start to be answered favorably on Saturday.

I think the strength of the defense is again at DB; looks like a lot of experience and depth. LB has a good starting group, not sure about depth. DLine seems to be a similar story, but maybe not quite as strong in the starting group as at LB. The upside to the injuries last season, though, is that a number of backups got more experience than they normally would have.

Am I misrembering or did our opening opponents used to have played two games before playing an Ivy, at least at some point? Opening against a team with 3 games played seems a pretty big disadvantage for the 8 Ivies, although I suppose that can be significantly mitigated if the opener is against a weak team, regardless of having played 3 games.

I know nothing about San Diego.

As always, injuries, illness, other absences will affect our teams, and relative game day availability can sometimes matter. Hope springs eternal.

So, they did upset a team ranked 24 and have given up no turnovers.
