Very purposeful scheduling. Gives the staff the opportunity to see what they have and don’t have - especially with depth - to varying degrees so they can make adjustments/changes before League schedule. Also a fun road trip for the players, and fun is a key ingredient in camaraderie/team building.

How is it purposeful scheduling? Any out of conference opponent in the Patriot League would be better. You at least want an opponent that is close to your level, Stetson is far far from it.

Purposeful for the reasons I gave above, and, playing a weaker opponent also lessens the chances of catastrophic injuries while not eliminating the possibility all together obviously. IL guys are generally bigger and stronger than those in the Pioneer or whatever. These types of games are about seeing what you really have at game speed, especially in position groups with some new starters. Yes, playing a credible Patriot opponent would be a better test, but the reality is that your 1s don’t need to be tested. - they’re already tested, which is why they’re 1s. The approach on these games is total cost/benefit/doing nothing on purpose that will lower the chances of winning an IL championship, which really helps coaching contracts get renewed.
