Subject: Unintentional Oarclubbing

A friend of mine had just bought a Westsail 32. He wanted to move it from Oakland to Berkeley. The boat is new to him, so after doing some work on his diesel engine he wanted to motor it up the estuary for a test run. Well, we got by Jack London Square when during an engine check it was found the engine was spewing oil all over the engine room. Well, in classic Chinese fire drill fashion, up goes the mainsail. Luckily we were upwind in the estuary because a Westsail with a dirty bottom doesn't go to weather very well. As luck would have it, down wind all the way. As we got about 100 yards from his slip, we lowered all sail and had the wind push us into the slip. This was the first time he had ever taken this boat out, now he was landing Oar Club style. He steered that boat right into the slip, no problems. When we got to the slip, I hopped off with a line and wrapped it around a cleat, stopping the boat "Aircraft carrier landing style". All was good, happy crew we sailed it in.
I'm glad I visited this website and practice sailing into my slip. It helped avoid disaster in this case.

Any other unintentional "oarclub" stories?
