Walter meandered over to the bar and pulled up to an empty stool. He looked over his shoulder at the speed dating that was still going on and shook his head.

The things he did for his grandchildren.

He could be back at the house, enjoying time with Adam and Sabina, along with Michael and Nikita, who had been much more focused on family since they arrived home weeks ago from their trip east. But He had agreed to follow thru with this for a while.

He just wasn’t sure how much longer he could go thru the motions of trying to find a date. He didn’t mind the women that he met, but there hadn’t been a connection with any of them. Some of them liked him a lot and Walter had to let them down gently. Walter was sure that this wasn’t the right thing for him.

“Already over here for your black coffee?” the bartender spoke as she smiled at Walter and placed the mug in front of him. Walter looked at her and chuckled. “I don’t know what you are talking about.”

“The first night you were the hit… every lady here wanted you… you know, the right ones,” the bartender spoke and Walter chuckled again. “You mean not the few that were in their twenties?”

This yielded a laugh from the woman behind the bar. She pushed her ebony hair back and nodded her head up and down. “I noticed that one… She must have something for grandfathers.”

“She needed one,” Walter stated after sipping the coffee. He smiled. “You make some mighty fine coffee.”

“It’s all I drink here,” the woman winked as she went to the other end of the bar to fill some beers and returned. “You barely made it thru your eight required speed dates. If you aren’t into this… why are you doing this?”

“For Adam,” Walter commented as he rolled his shoulders back. The lady glanced at him with confusion. “For a man? Was it a bet or something?”

“Adam… is sort of my grandson,” Walter stated as he shook his head. “He signed me up for all of this… he thinks I need a woman.”

“Well, number 39, maybe you do,” the bartender laughed as she leaned forward. “She would teach you to let people know your name.”

“That’s against the rules of speed dating.”

“Do you think I’m participating?”

“I think you are a good bartender who knows how to make good coffee,” Walter replied back and the woman laughed. “Oh… it’s worse than that… I own the bar.”

Walter leaned back and turned around in the stool. He extended a hand. “My name is Walter. I heard that you are the fine businesswoman who owns this fine establishment.”

“It’s nice to meet you, Walter. My name is Orana,” the woman smiled as she extended her hand. Walter shook it and snapped his fingers. “Now I understand the name of The Moon Bar. Orana… that’s Aboriginal for the moon.”

Now it was Orana’s moment to be stunned. She cleared her throat and reached for her own coffee. “Not many people know that.”

Walter shrugged his shoulders. “I pick up things here and there… I usually think its useless knowledge, but not this time.”

Walter couldn’t tell her about how there was a terrorist organization that was named Orana for a while, right before he got released from Section One by Nikita. He had been part of the mission because they needed a weapons’ expert. “Would that also make you the owner of The Morning Moon Coffee Café?”

“Where did you think I learned how to make coffee?” Orana winked as she stepped away to fill an order. Walter watched her walk away and sighed. He shook his head as he couldn’t believe that this was going on right now. He watched as she returned. “A business woman… working as a bartender…”

“Would you believe me that I like it?”

“I think it’s more than that,” Walter stated and Orana shrugged her shoulders. “Maybe there was some reason why I was here weeks ago… like someone cancelling and the other bartender being out of town… and I just happened to see someone that sparked my attention… and I didn’t see him leaving with anyone… and I just hedged my bets that he would be back?”

“I’d like to think that,” Walter whispered and Orana winked. “This is my last shift of filling in. Scott is the regular bartender and he had his appendix removed… So do I need to sign up for speed dating next week?”

“Why waste your money?”
