Nikita looked at Michael and shook her head. “I may have blocked most things about my pregnancy, but I remember the labor.”
“I didn’t say that you didn’t…”
“You did so,” Nikita spat out as she rubbed her forehead. “Why else did you drag Keane in here to check me out?”
Keane stepped out of the bathroom where he had gone after doing a very cursor exam of Nikita. “I made him.”
“This is just dress rehearsal things,” Nikita spoke and Keane chuckled. “Braxton Hicks… yes.”
“Braxton what?” Michael asked and Nikita rolled her eyes. “This is why I wanted you to read the same books that you gave me to read. You would know this, Michael. I forgot the term because I’m having them.”
Michael didn’t say a word. Nikita had a completely valid point with what she had said. Keane glanced at Michael and then looked at Nikita. “You aren’t worried about these… but you are worried about something. You would have been able to handle these….”
“I have been handling them for about two days,” Nikita whispered as she pressed her lips together. “And I know… that you are going to ask us to refrain… from… well…”
Michael cleared his throat as Nikita’s face turned red. “I already knew that we were done with that.”
“But pregnant sex is really good,” Nikita looked at Michael as she shook her head in disbelief that she had said that in front of Keane. “I mean… there is other sex that is good… well…”
“It’s different,” Keane declared as he raised a hand. “That’s all that needs to be said… and I doubt greatly that this will be a long term situation for you and Michael.”
Michael sat down on the bed and took Nikita’s hand. “You should have told me.”
Nikita blinked her eyes and nodded her head. “And I didn’t. So you can be mad with me… or just know that I did it for us.”
Keane pressed his lips together and slightly shook his head from side to side. This was too simple. There was something more that was pressing on Nikita’s mind right now. “Look… I now that the holidays are stressful and they are very stressful while pregnant. But I think there is something more.”
Nikita tried to pull her hand out of Michael’s hand and Michael squeezed it more. “Kita?”
She closed her eyes. “When I felt the first… I first didn’t think and thought it was labor… and I realized how much we don’t have… ready… We don’t have things for the baby… There are a couple outfits… and we know the room… but the crib isn’t here… and we don’t have a car seat… and it’s a lot like how it was when I was pregnant with Sabina… I couldn’t have things…”
Michael stroked her cheek. “Kita… you didn’t want to do anything until after the holidays…”
“I know,” Nikita rasped as she looked down at Michael’s soothing hand. “And in ways… I think it was because I felt guilty about not preparing for Sabina… not buying things for her… not that I could have… but I don’t know… it’s twisted….”
Keane eased down in the chair and watched the couple. He was sure that Michael could tell her about the plans for tomorrow. Hell, Keane could tell her. But he was going to leave that decision to Michael.
“And we haven’t even talked about names… that’s important… we are going to have a baby… and we haven’t talked about if Chelsea is a name that you want… or if James is too common for a boy… we have no names…”
Michael now eased his face to kiss at the tears. “I’ve been waiting for you, Kita… and I don’t like the name Chelsea… and James is too common.”
Nikita leaned her head away from Michael. “What if we can’t make a decision before the baby comes? This is a sign that the baby is coming…”
“Ah… I think you have some time,” Keane leaned his head to look at Nikita. “And you just need to start talking. It is all going to work out.”
“But its Christmas,” Nikita looked at Michael. “And Jason created that game for you and Adam… you should be out there with him…”
“He is having enough fun without me,” Michael shook his head slightly as he glanced at Keane. Keane knew when he wasn’t needed. Right now, Nikita was going to be fine.
It did make Keane more concerned about the decision for a home delivery when the time came. He knew that the PTSD and who Nikita was had been the primary reason for that decision but Keane needed to prepare for things not to go as planned.
“Is everything ok upstairs?” Walter asked as Keane slipped into the kitchen. Keane nodded his head. “I think in a half hour it will be ok to start with the cake and pies… and things.”
Walter slapped his hands together as he thought about the assorted sweets. But he paused as he continued to study Keane. “Something else on your mind?”
“How is the list of gifts for tomorrow?” Keane inquired and Walter shrugged his shoulders. “The big things are taken care of for the most part… Michael thought that Nikita would want to do some shopping on her own.”
“Do you have that list?”
“Why?” Walter inquired.
“I think I have some shopping to do in the morning.”
