John, Wang Shu-chin was taught the 99 posture form by CPL but he was already a master of Ba Gua and Hsing-i as taught to him by Chang Chao-tung. I have researched this and believe WSC added some of his own ideas to the CPL Form and did much to spread the Form worldwide, especially in Japan.
The two forms are still very similar though.
Do a search on WSC and CPL and you will find out much more online.
The CPL form has a few modified Wu style postures in it and a strong influence from the Chen style but the main frame of it is old Yang style. It is based on the pre WWII era styles and therefore retains more martial flavor to it than the later modified Yang forms, especially in the performance of it.
Watch for an announcement of the second printing of the English translation of CPL's Textbook on this Form, by the
Rochester T'ai Ch'uan Center.
