A SIP OF ANISETTE

I now recall the summers of my years
As I now enter shorter winter days
Though I am young, I cry with old age tears
While falling helpless to my final phase.
And as I cling to thoughts of joy and light,
I close my eyes to fates that lie ahead,
Reliving visions deep within my sight,
And grasp them to my fading heart instead.
Yet, I shall not proclaim a sad regret,
For all the things I'll have no chance to do,
But rather sip a toast of Anisette,
And bid my shortened life a sweet adieu.
...I'll greet the reaper with a soft hello,
...And embrace his kiss of death before I go.
