At the crack of dawn, I made my way out to the barn, shielding my eyes from the harsh sunlight. I approached the stall of Victory Leap, and fed him an apple. He munched it happily, but I just petted him since we wouldn't ride until later. I made my way down the aisle, and grabbed a violet halter and matching lead. I went into a nearby stall, and led out a beautiful young filly, Victory Dream. Her coat was almost snow-white, and her conformation almost perfect. She had a light pink muzzle, which she nudged me with in the ribs. "Hey! Quit that you little devil!" I clipped her into the cross-ties, and gave her a fast but good grooming. Next, I placed a black all-purpose saddle on her back, and tightened the girth. She wasn't that used to having a saddle on her back yet, and she shifted uneasily "Easy girl.." I cooed. I grabbed her black snaffle bridle with the flash noseband, and slung it over my shoulder. I'd switche to a milder bit, a jointed eggbutt snaffle, so I wouldn't ruin her mouth so young. After a lot of struggle, I managed to slip the bit into her mouth. We walked out to the regular schooling arena, and I mounted up. She skidded to the side a bit as soon as weight was put on, but I reniforced her with the rein. We started at the rail with a walk, and I let her stretch her head out to fiddle with the bit for a while. After she remembered what it was, I asked her for a trot. Sheshoved her hindquarters to the inside, and shook her head up into the air in protest. I perfected the trot with a light tap of my crop on her hindquarters, and she moved into a bouncy trot. I rewarded her for her efforts, and sat through the hard annoyed trot. I slowed her to a trot, and she tossed her head up in protest when the bit came in contact. I loosened the rein a little, and worked on turning her with my legs. I pushed her into a trot, and after a few trys, she did it. I moved her over to a white PVC pole lying in the center of the ring, and we trotted over it without problems. We did it 3 more times, and then I walked her out. She seemed happy to have been able to "play" and bobbed her head up and down. I took her back to the stable, and untacked her. She hadn't sweated at all, so I just groomed her and put her away. Before I left, I went to Vic's stall to tell him of all the progress his offspring were making.
