Hi! My name is Laura (also) and I was just browsing through the internet and came accross this sight. I am just starting to watch my carbs. I just wanted to make a comment on the Wellbutrin. I have been on Wellbutrin for over 4 years now. It was prescribed to me as an antidepressent. I take it along with prozac. I have suffered from depression for over 20 years now (I'm 34). I have been though almost every antidepressent and combination of antidepressents, and this combination seems to work. I am on 500 mg a day (2 in morning/1 in afternoon/2 at night). It definitely has helped me with the smoking. I've been on it for so long that I am pretty much over the side effects. HOWEVER, and this is why I am writing, there are dangerous side effects to Wellbutrin. The main thing is that is can induce seizures when you are not even prone to them. Having been married to someone who suffers from seizures, it is a horrific thing to see someone go throught. While seizures themselves can't kill you, the effects can. Driving, taking a bath, just falling on your head. I guess what I really want to say is that while I am all for medications, there are some you just can't play with. I know that all doctors have different opinions about medications which makes it hard as a patient to know who to believe. If you look up Wellbutrin in the PDR book you will see that you are at high risk for having a seizure and especially when mixed with other medications (including over the counter). Like someone said, medication effects everyone different (which is why the doctors have different opinions - everything is based on what they see) the potential side effects are the same. I just wanted to pass this along because people who like taking medications don't care or are not aware about this side effect. I am all for medications because I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for them. Just like anybody else in any profession, you can have book knowledge but you make your decisions based on past experiences. A lot of doctors have (thank goodness) not had to deal with the adverse side effects of Wellbutrin. Just be careful. Good luck on the dieting...I know it is so hard and consumes so much of life. Best Wishes!

Laura
