*grin* Yeah, I can see where that might be a good idea.
ANYway, Merrilli asked why I liked it, and I wrote a little something on a napkin last night at bowling. (I would have transcribed it sooner, but my computer has been unplugged today while my furniture has been re-arranged.) Here tis, and I warn you, there is some rather harsh language involved. Read at your own risk:
Why? Because it was like Voyager, without the good acting. Of course, while watching with my friends I made a joke the cum shot (exploding building) within the first minute. Yeah, I groaned at Star Trek haing a theme SONG. And you better believe I screamed at the screen when T'Pol had her hot oil rubdown.
You all know I've had low expectations - been whining about it for months. So why did I like it? Because Star Trek has finally MET my expectations, for the first time in years.
It was full of holes, plotwise, the direction was pedestrian, and the acting was just kinda there. There was gratuitous het slobbering over a stacked female. There was disregard for advances in our current society, which is supposed to become Star Trek society. There was disregard for other societies of the future. Did I not predict all of that?
So, I found myself relaxing and just enjoying after a little while. What's to hate? It's no worse than I'd expected, and there were some cute things, like the quirky cgi smile of the doc, T'Ho's "assets" (T'Ho for T.H.O.'s - Titty Hard Ons for the uninitiated), the submarine feel of the ship and the cowboy attitude of the crew. (What can I say, submarines and cowboys are two of my favs.)
There's a lot of little stuf to enjoy, and no getting wound up at subtext or lack of subtext from week to week. Who'd pair Miss Mouse with T'Ho anyway?
So fire away if you want. ;-)
