We Can’t Rollover to a Better Future

The week before I refused a direct order to scab, Tyrone gave me direct orders to do Lugger work twice in one night. I argued but complied and asked for my committeeman. “Smile and file” is the code.
In the first instance, Tyrone walked with me back to Containment but there wasn't a cart available. Nevertheless, he had ordered me to do Lugger work. In the second instance, I complied but argued and delayed long enough that Kathy Snow returned from lunch. BUT he did give me the direct order.
In both instances I asked for my committeeman. Tyrone did not call him out. I contacted Ron myself and he wrote a grievance for NOT calling out the Committeeman when I requested. BUT he did not write a grievance against Tyrone for ordering me to do Lugger work. Ron said he wouldn't because Tyrone didn't put me on notice. Well, now I am on notice.
I hope that Ron or someone did write grievances on behalf of other workers who were ordered to do lugger work and to help management cover up for the failure of the new Tugger System. I asked Mel Smith and Mark Pressler to investigate and see how many other workers had been asked to do lugger work. I specifically said that I knew job setters had been asked to do lugger work. When job setters are lugging you know we are in trouble.
I think that balance and seven days is a bit extreme for the first infraction. Especially considering that it is management that has failed to perform sufficiently; management that has failed to correct the inadequate system they designed; and management that has failed to live up to their responsibilities.
Who is responsible to monitor the efficiency of the new Tugger System? Who is responsible to ensure that machine operators have the supplies they need to do their jobs? Why should we be expected to help management cut our jobs with their underhanded, incompetent disorganization?
I appreciate everyones’ efforts to get the word out and distribute flyers while I am out of work. Union members should be aware that a fellow member is in distress for refusing to scab. This is a fight for jobs. I am not effing off. I am not on vacation. I appreciate the donations of fellow union members. It is a demonstrable sign of solidarity. If management sees that kind of support they will be discouraged. They will see resistance spreading and the willingness of fellow union members to support those who are willing to make a stand and fight back. We can’t rollover to a better future.
I promise not to use the money for drugs or prostitutes. But if I win at Bingo we could start a little trust fund for members of the resistance who are disciplined unfairly.

Stay solid and jolly,
Shotwell
