Subject: Is this corruption?

I don’t think there is anything to be done about this, but it does put a pretty bad taste in my mouth. In the most recent city council meeting minutes and agenda the council approved selling 190 Fullerton avenue to najat elabouri and roeshawn strong for $190k, with the breakdown on page 50 and 51.

The city’s disposition policy bonuses are out on full force here, to the point that the elabouri/strong bid for this house was not the highest in terms of actual dollars to the city, but their $190k bid is increased by 20% for being minorities,20% for living in the city for at least 5 years, 10% for committing to living in this house for 5 years, 15% for being first time home owners, 25% for living in section 8 housing, 20% for being a low income family, and 5% for being a city of Newburgh employee (elabouri works for the PD). Bringing their total adjusted bid up to $408,500. $218,500 imaginary dollars.

Side note - I don’t want to hear shit from Corey Allen again about black homeowners after learning about the city’s disposition policy bonuses. Your money is straight up more valuable to the city council than others money.

Here’s where it gets interesting, roeshawn strong was a recipient of one of the $10,000 “grants” from the city councils “relief for small business assistance program” through his “business” Phanatiks Entertainment. They’ll be putting a down payment of $6,650 on their mortgage as shown in the city council agenda documents.

So, did the city council just straight up gift these people a house? Free $10k for your fake business, free $218k in imaginary money to make your bid the “highest” for this house. Does this make sense to anybody? Can anybody on the council actually justify taking less real cash for city owned properties?
