It WAS a beautiful and iconic structure. Just like the city as a whole. Since the 1960s you also watched the decay of Newburgh POLITICS and ACCOUNTABILITY. You watched as Newburgh talked on, wished, and dreamed but FAILED to progress with any plan that would save your beautiful and iconic building. Millions came and went out the door to special interests.
The original owners abandoned it, some others thought they could profit from it and then the city came to own it. All have failed to get past dreams and wishes. A chronic condition that plagues this city.
There are dozens of failing buildings that parallel and stand as evidence of failing leadership, planning and commitment to any success.
