The Concession -- Richard WW., 05:52:30 06/23/01 Sat (AC9C18A3.ipt.aol.com/172.156.24.163)
Hey, I hope some people remeber me. It's Richie from the concession. I worked for Seymour for about 8 years from 1978 through 1986. I started out cleaning tables and worked my way up to head sandwich man and grill man. I used to hang out with Ross (paddleball player), Larry the Lifeguard and Jeff the maintenance boy. My grandmother Sally and mom Bea were members of the club for years and years.
It would be great to hear from anyone who remeberes those days with the same good memories that I have.

Okay, does anyone remember me. I went to the Brook camp from 72 thru 76. I was the kid who was hit in the eye in 76 by an out of control knock hockey stick and was blind in one eye for a few months until the injury healed.
Anyone remember those great water shoes and bathing caps. WING DINGS!!!

I remember those good ole days at the brook went to camp there with those stupid swim caps blue for boys yellow for girls. I started going there in 62 when the pads were just open lots and we used to catch crabs at jamaica bay and play softball in those lots.remember joe serina, norman rudolph camp director, gusy green and her dancers, the big friggin swordfish on the wall.how about how nice and air conditioned the pagoda room felt on hot days.can still smell the dogs and fries.I always made a few bucks for baseball cards as a chaze lounge boy.the juke box blasting rollingstone tunes near the paddleball courts.this was when canarsie was in its prime the baby boomers young and enjoying youth.

- Thanks for the memories............. -- Seaview Pool member, 14:17:07 11/09/01 Fri (spider-tk074.proxy.aol.com/152.163.206.209)
I used to make a habit out of visiting the Brook everytime any athletic team from Seaview came over to play you guys.
I was totally non-athletic, but I loved the differences between the two clubs.
You had way cooler teen dances, way hotter girls and you had italian ices. We didn't.
All my Brook buddies used to appreciate how easy it was to climb over the fence by the paddleball court at the Seaview Pool. You just had to watch out for the old rat grandmas, who loved trying to find people climbing the fences.
Thanks for the memories. We also waited for new pads for our lounges, had a great jukebox that played 45's, had amzaing color wars, and of course many trips to the Brook Sun & Swim Club.
Signed,
Howie The Nerd

Anyone interested in attending a double Canarsie HS/South Shore HS reunion?
The idea is to make it a jumbo reunion for the ultra good-looking and cool classes of 1982 - 1986, as we all have extremely busy lives. (Inclusion of 1981 & up to 1988 is also an option).
Plus, our neighborhood didn't promote the best school spirit, so this way we can guarantee at least 200 - 300 people attending.
Tables can be set up according to HS & graduating year.
Those who didn't graduate CHS or SSHS for whatever reason(but who would have in those years) are also invited.
If interested, let me know via email at Canarsie66@aol.com.
If the response rate is decent, I'll seriously start planning this for a Saturday night, either in January, 2005, or July, 2005.
This way, some of you have some time to lose 20 pounds,
work out, get lipo and hair transplants:-)
This reunion concept depends on the feedback I get.
We'll have it somewhere nice, either in NYC (either a hotel ballroom like the Hilton, Marriott or Sheraton, or a cool lounge-type place like Metronome).
Email me with your thoughts & ideas.
Put "Canarsie Reunion" in the subject line so I don't delete your email.

- Hi to everyone -- Brian Tanzer, 17:28:50 10/24/03 Fri (cache-dl10.proxy.aol.com/205.188.209.46)
Just wanted to add some words about my friend Ross Guaneri. I knew Ross for many years. He was very close to my brother George Vernile up to the time of his unfortunate death. Ross was a troubled person, but always tried to hide it through his great sense of humor. Those of you who were fortunate enough to know Ross, know what a great guy he was. He was one of the funniest people i've ever known. We all miss him very much and pray that he is in a better place. I also wanted to say hello to all my old friends from Canarsie. I have great childhood memories from the Brook, ps 276, Bildersee and South shore. I wish everyone well and hope my old friends and neighbors are doing well. Stay well.
Brian Tanzer

Hi Pam (Weinrieb),
I didn't really want to make Ross a topic on the web, but I was hoping that somehow you would find out. Ross was a great but troubled guy, I can happily tell you that we all (I hope you remember us - myself, George, Jack, Wayne, Marty, Mitch, Richie...) remained friends with Ross through all the years. Unfortunately, no one was really able to understand the depth of his internal problems. He would at various times let us know that he was hurting, and we would try and get him to go out and do things, but obviously to no avail.
Ross was a great friend, someone who I can say without a doubt I spent many of the most fun times in my life with, and whom I will never forget. I know that the rest of my friends feel very much the same way.
I remember like it was yesterday, the two of you guys dating, and us all going out together (double dates, the whole crowd, hanging out on E. 84th, etc.).
You're right, it just shows us how important it is to value every wonderful day, every loved one and every friend in our lives and not to take anything for granted.
Hope things are well with you.
Regards,
David

I was looking at the website of pictures of the Brook. Yes, Joe Serena (my uncle) was one of the bosses of the Brook. But, also my grandfather, Lou Lombardi and another man, Abe Mayback were owners as well. I have fond memories of the Brook from when I was growing up. I remember going to the day camp and playing scavenger hunts in the back where there are now houses along Padergate North.

i went to the brook every summer from after 4 grade in 1967till after 8 grade in 1971.then it was off to surprise lake sleep camp. I was junior life guard the summer of 71 with long hair. I remember those long days playing handball and the sauna and the jukebox. i loved those last days when food went cheap , the pancakes and fried chicken the italian ices. my kids now go to a club which is similar and i guess theyll have same memories in their future too. The brook always represented for me a great place to hang out and have fun Now im reopening the place and looking 4 alumni wanting to work there. The houses wioll be torn down and ive got the blueprint so the new brook will be an exact copy.If interested please see your psychologist cause it aint gonna happen. But here on the web maybe we can design a virtual brook where we can chat in the club near the pool or the paddleball courts.

I hope you pain is over and you are in a better place now. Rest in peace.

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Ross Quaneri(maybe I spelled his name wrong), but that doesn't matter. I remember him as a nice person, who really tried to please his fellow man and was kind to others. It has been years since we've seen each other, but only recently did I hear and read his contacts on the memory sight. For those who don't realize, a kind word never hurt anyone, and we're all not perfect. We should focus on the good of someone or not comment at all. Remember him as an icon to the human body, and maybe he was troubled, he didn't fall to the wayside of drugs or a bad nature. Anyone who reads this should be greatful for any love or good health they have in life. My condolences to his sweet sister Suzie and any other family members. Thank you
