Lovely debrief, it sounds like all of you ladies laughed so hard you have now added at least ten years to your life , based on the old adage about laughter increasing your life span! Thank you so much for sharing so much of the trip and the first hand information so many of us have been waiting for.
And who is 'us'? The fandom. The people who put their lives on hold and watched every second of LFN every Sunday night for four-and-a-half years like the delightful addicts that we are. We all came together because of our fascination with this amazing story and the complex relationships within Section.
As a fandom we do the things that naturally occur - we chat, discuss; dissect every moment of LFN, the actors, the motivations, the canon and the fanfiction. We become a group that shares, that disagrees, that supports, that listens, that voices opinion, and that loves everything LFN! What an amazing group of talented people make up this complex fandom that we have.
And a fandom is fragile, and ours is no different. It's up to the members to keep it together, to keep it interesting, to keep other members coming back. And we do keep coming back, it's wonderful.
However events have occurred recently that may be fracturing this fandom and that is just shameful and I think people should be ashamed of themselves. I'm popping out of mostly lurkdom to say 'Enough is enough!'
I don't know all the details of whatever is going on, I didn't attend anything in Montreal and I just sit in the background and write fanfic whenever my muses hit me over the head and remind me that my career cannot be my whole life. However I have read all the boards and watched as people seemed to position themselves as either a 'Roy fan' or 'not a Roy fan' after the 'A message from ROY DUPUIS' was posted on every LFN related message board on June 1st by Maxine. You would have to be an idiot to not know that the fandom was splintering based on that message.
And now it may be that the message source is in serious question.
Maria wrote: Helene Mailloux, Roys agent also spoke with me at length, her words, not mine "This has NOTHING to do with Roy, it is something between Mrs. Cunnyngham and Mrs. Wolf. Then, "Only I speak for Roy..." And there, ladies, you have it, it has nothing to do with Roy and to tell you the truth that makes a lot of sense. So, is the missive from Roy real, did we get second-hand information, wishful thinking, perhaps half-truths and innuendo?
As a member of this fandom, I want to know and I think every member of this fandom deserves to know...Was the message that has this whole fandom upset and fracturing really directly from Roy? Did he know it was being posted to all of us, everywhere? The agent herself said that she is the only one who speaks for Roy, if there was a message from him concerning Mira why did it come from Maxine? And should the fact that there is obvious animousity between two members of the fandom (obvious by the agent's statement about 'Ms. Cunnyngham and Ms. Wolfe') be allowed to splinter our devoted group of LFN fans?
I am now seriously disturbed by these events. This fandom and it's members are very dear to my heart. LFN means alot to me and I want to remember it for the amazing show that it was, for it's ability to bring people together from all over the world, for it's incredible intangible appeal to such a wonderfully diverse and talented group of people.
As with the rest of the fandom, I continue to await the full answers.
Mary
