I TRULY feel that the company we fielded this past weekend had to have been among the finest ever crafted in this hobby we all spend so much time, effort, and energy on. The level of authenticity, the body of knowledge, the wordly membership, young, old, veteran, raw recruit. We had it all but it seemed to work seamlessly. It's Tuesday now but I honestly wish I was back in the field next to Mr. Eggleston, passing a flask, sucking on a pickle, watching OX issue ammunition. The minutae of living in the field are the experiences that make or break an event with me and this past weekend abounded in positive memories.

I walked back to my car to retrieve the pieces of eqipment that I had loaned to young Jordan Davis and that lad was positively radiant over what he had been a part of. I'm glad we offered him a spot in the ranks.

From banjo picking to chicken gutting, raw cabbage and morning reports, pickled eggs to fried pies, a passed flask and a shared cigar, I enjoyed every bloody minute of the thing.

Sitting here at my computer clad in white shirt and tie, the thought of being unwashed and sweaty, sore-footed and sleepy, begrimed with blackpowder and bacon fat seem almost a month distant already. But you can be damned sure that I'm ready to don my pack at the first word and join you men again, wherever our next bivouac may be!

Cheers to you FINE men from the Lazy Jacks as well as to all the absolutely first-rate living historians that populated our company this past weekend.

Seventh Company, form on the first corporal!

Kind regards,

Fred
