Boys here are the counties of enlistment for the 15th TX. This is from the CSR's.

The 15th Texas Cavalry was organized in Dallas on 10 Mar 1862, was reorganized on 20 Mar 1862, and spent that spring training near Clarksville, TX (Capt Houston's hometown). Counties where some of the companies were raised were: Co A (Capt. M.L. Harper) Dallas; Co B (Capt. G.B. Pickett) Wise; Co C (Capt. William K. Mastin) Kaufman and Collin; Co D (Capt. Frizzell) Collin; Co E (Capt. M.D. Kennedy) Tarrant; Co G (Capt. A. Faulkner) Denton; Co H (Capt. English) Hunt Co; Co K (Capt. W.H. Cathey) Johnson Co.

As said above they straddle Dallas/Ft Worth east through west. McKinney was the seat of Collin County. Ft Worth is Tarrant County and am not sure on Johnson County for Co K - another source lists Clarksville as the source for Co K, all the way up near the Oklahoma border where the regiment trained in the Spring of 62. Johnson County is southwest of Ft Worth.

Today Cleburne is the county seat of Johnson County. Note also that Granbury TX is the seat of Hood County - interesting. Granbury was absolutely furious with Hood for his treatment on Nov 29 at Spring Hill and he would die the next day still mad. He probably would not have appreciated the relationship between town and county.

Doug
