Subject: Census, Lazy Jack Identies & Rev. Rufus C. Burleson

Hello Comrades,
Well as it seems that we are all were grabbing identities I thought I better confirm those desired by the Lazy Jacks:
J(ames) Gerald , age 34, Ireland, Clerk = Richard Hale (Richard as a native of the Emerald Isle, with a natural accent, will I am sure amuse us all in this 'role'. He is busy padding out his story -- should provide some comic relief on the march).
Jacob Hicks, age 35, doesn't know where he's from = Davey Turpin (not knowing where he's from might account for Davey's English accent... son of a British sea Captain?).

and as to my good self.... Desparate to find an identity I burned the midnight oil and came up with one more name to add to the census list. I had to find him by working backwards (with an 1890 Waco City Directory! and then onto the 1870 Census, and finally back to the 1860 Census -- time consuming, but rewarding). I hope he can be seen as a Chaplain/1st Corporal!:

1860 Census Data:
Rufus C. Burleson priv/chaplain, Alabama, Washington (Independence, nr. Brenham), Baptist Minister, married, 1ch

after the war he became President and Professor at Waco University (soon to be Baylor University) of 'Moral and Mental Philosophy and Evidences of Christianity'.

As a present-day professor at University College London (in Historical Archaeology) and as a former Divinity Student, son of a Presbyterian Lay Minister, and believing Christian, I am quite happy to accept this role as 1st Corporal and protector of the company's spiritual welfare (but, moral question, does this mean I can't bring a flask of busthead? hmm, perhaps some 'soothing syrup' or some 'blood mixture' for those in need?).

ps. I'm for using the names!

Regards,
KC (Rev.)
