Subject: a Lazy Jack's kit layout
In reply to: Tom Yearby 's message, "Re: Enlisted Ranks- Lay our your kit" on 03/24/04 9:45:01am

Having spent more months of my life than I care to remember in the Louisiana outdoors digging holes in the ground, I look forward with some trepidation to encountering once more the wild kingdom of DeSoto Parish. Can you guys do an anti-rain dance or something in preparation for our arrival?

Well boys, this is another anti-Yankee kit selection, here it is:
Penitentiary Jacket (White Cotton Jean)
Muslin Drawers
Logwood Wool-Cotton jean trousers with blackened horn buttons RD Pattern (V. well worn)
Handsewn linen shirt (based on 1850s pattern from 'Thoughts on Men Shirts' with Paris import lady's dress buttons from that same period -- ain't I a dandy!)
Low crown, wide brim black slouch
Brown belt with plain sheet-brass plate
documented Trans-Miss cap pouch with lead finial
Generic CS cartridge box with lead finial
De-farbed Enfield
Enfield bayonet frog/scabbard (original)
Enfield Bayonet (original)
British import brogans
British Import Blanket
tarred groundsheet (from Don Smith)
v.worn handsewn linen haversack w/bone button w/ poke bags, etc...
CS single bag knapsack
1 tin (open top) boiler
plain CS canteen w/corn cob stopper & thin leather strap
pr. wool socks
1 spare cotton shirt, 1 spare pair cotton socks
testament
soothing syrup bottle (original)
clay pipe (original)
baccy box
tintype of my beloved

Well there it is boys! I am looking forward to being back home and the rest of the Lazy Jacks are keenly looking forward to a memorable visit. Please remember the anti-rain dance,
Your Comrade,
KC
