Patrick Brown, in his recent publication “For Fatigue Purposes…: the Army Sack Coat of 1857-1872” (2003, the Watchdog Review, Inc., Warren, MI) notes that as early as 1861 five sizes of coats were produced (p. 11) and that late war production included sizes 5, 6 and 7 (p.41).
