Subject: Terry Goodkind's new book.

I just finished reading The Pillars of Creation. It wasn't too bad as far as Terry Goodkind books go, although, the "BIG" plot twist was so damned obvious I figured it out like 30 pages into the book. The regular characters from the rest of the series barely made any appearance in the book at all (which is a definite plus), they showed up just in the last 40 pages or so. It seems to me that Terry Goodkind is getting about as sick of writing about his characters as we are of reading about them. The book didn't even say that it was even part of the Sword of Truth series.

The last three books of his series have been centered around characters that didn't exist before their book came along. The main character of this book, Jennsen, is not that bad, if astronomically stupid and gullible. She's not even close to being as grating as Richard or Kahlan with thier annoying 'love that cannot be *sigh*' garbage, not to mention the fact that the second they get together one of them always makes some stupid little mistake that jepordizes all of creation. I wonder how many times he was going to try to pull that one off and still think he had any fans.

Terry Goodkind seems as though he's finally learning how to write a story that doesn't use every cliche in the book, create new cliches with which we will be beaten over the head for years to come, and steal every aspect of his story from someone else, changing it just enough to get away without breaking any laws. Took him long enough.

If you're a fan of Terry Goodkind you might not like it much, because of the lack of just about everything that you might expect in a Sword of Truth book . . . like the characters for instance. This book can stand alone without the rest of the series to support it, but still takes place in the same world and fits in with the story of the series by showing the main character's point of view on all the war and crap going on. It is worth reading, though. Even I, someone that usually dislikes Terry Goodkind's books, liked The Pillars of Creation. I actually liked the last one, Faith of the Fallen, too but, not as much as I liked this one. It's not as good as having a new WOT book to read but it did keep me entertained for a few days.
