Subject: DOCTOR'S OFFICE UPDATE

I wasn't able to get chemo again today. My numbers were pretty low. He could have possibly gotten away with it but didn't want to take the risk of them dropping to "going in the hospital" levels. The white blood cell count was 2.2. He didn't put me on an antibiotic this time. I told him I can't take the Levaquin anymore when he does need to put me on one. It makes me throw up.

My doctor said that right now I am on 50 mg's of Navelbine. He will have to lower the dosage to a level that is effective and yet allows me to get chemo every week. He's not sure what they will be yet. I will see him again next Thursday.

I have been having a lot of problems with my stomach. I either can't each much without nausea OR I don't have an appetite at all. He said that is definitely from the chemo.

I have also been having problems for over a week now with swelling and puffiness on the right side of my neck. I have discomfort in the right side of my chest, it feels similar to a pulled muscle. I also get light-headed everytime I bend or lean over then stand up. Plus I have A LOT of puffiness around my eyes, particularly the right eye.

All of this is on the side of my port-a-cath. My doctor is convinced that there is something going on with the port causing all these problems. There is a tube attached to the port that is inserted in a vein at the time of surgery. That tube takes up space in the vein. Any time there are small blood clots or anything else in the vein, it can cause a bit of a blockage. He's pretty certain that is what is going on. I am to pay attention to my right arm to see if it swells. He will keep an eye on it. It can correct itself. If it doesn't, I'm not sure what he will do. I suspect I'd have to get the port taken out and have a new one put in. But I don't know.

I still get tired very easily and have to nap several hours everyday. Plus I sleep around 9 or 10 hours a night. I don't have much energy so I'm not able to do too much around the house but I do get things done a little at a time.

Fortunately I've discovered that Little House on the Prairie comes on in the afternoon and in the evening!! I love that show and I HAVE to watch it when it's on. That's one advantage to spending a lot of time on the couch... you find old shows that you've missed and loved.

Welp, that's the latest scoop.

Hi Stacy, I have missed you not posting on the site. I am sorry to hear that you could not get chemo. I know from my friend what a downer that is! However, you don't want to go to the hospital. I hope that the meds work for you this week. My heart is aching for you. Not feeling well is so hard. I hope that will improve for you too.

I take my friend tomorrow for her treatment, and she is thinking that she might not be able to get chemo. She has chemo every third week, and she hasn't felt well since she had the last treatment. The nurse thought that she might have a bug as something was going around. So I guess we will find out tomorrow what the problem is.

Gregory's dog came home tonight. I did not see her, but Jack did. He thought that she seemed fairly good. She still must have an injection daily as the doctor is still trying to rid her body of the tetnus. The tetnus attacks only the muscles--not the brain or organs. She does look different as her head is disfigured because of the muscles contracting. She also still needs lots of rest. They are happy to have her home.

Stay strong Stacy and rest your body. Please know that we continue to pray for good health for you. Love and prayers, Bonnie & Jack

Hi Bonnie, do you know the name of the chemo that your friend gets once every three weeks? You probably told me but remind me what kind of cancer she has?

Fortunately since I didn't get chemo, my appetite has been just fine this week. I went out to dinner at Chili's one night and had an AWESOME steak with steamed onions and mushrooms. It tasted GREAT and I was able to eat the whole thing without any problems!!! That was an accomplishment!

I'm glad Ice came home. How is she doing now?

Did your peppers turn red? Mine did.

Hi Stacy, Yes, my peppers turned red much to my disappointment. I liked them purple. It is good that you did not try them. Jack did, and they are very, very hot. He only had one! I hope that yours have stayed as nice as mine all summer. I have enjoyed watching them grow.

Ice is doing well. She is still having trouble with her hind legs. It makes it hard for her to do the steps. However, we are hoping that the legs will improve with time. Ice is so happy to be home, and she has begun to play again with Hammer. So that is a very good sign. We are all thrilled to have her home!

My friend was diagnosed with lung cancer 4 years ago next month. I will have to find out from her what kind of chemo she takes as I don't remember. She just finished her 6th one. The doctor wants her to take two more than possibly a 9th one. However, the last one and the one that she received last Friday have made her sick. So she is not sure that she will be taking anymore. She is getting headaches, very, very tired and sick to the stomach and not able to eat much. Not a fun time as you well know. Up to this point she has tolerated the chemo well. I don't know if she has talked with the doctor yet about the problem. I just tried to call her before I started this note, but she is not home. I will find out though the chem type and let you know.

It was good to hear that you could enjoy food again. How is this week going for you?

I could not get the helicopter video to run, but I know that it was a great time for you. What a nice thing for your friend to arrange and for WBAL to do!

I will email soon when I get the chemo name. Love and prayers, Bonnie

Are you kidding? I can't afford that! But I'll tell you what--I'll use a bottle brush and some Mr. Clean. Will that work?

So how are things going so far this week? I went to the Maryland Seafood Festival at Sandy Point on Saturday. Mmmmm....oysters! Had a date with a redhead, and drank a few more beers (and more wine) than I should have! The Crab Soup Cook Off was a bit of a disappointment. But those oyster shooters.....mmmmmmm........
