My buttons couldn't be any further pushed. As I sit here in semi-delirium nursing a fever and my body aching, I find myself just one degree hotter after reading this post. I cannot be grateful enough that we are moving as a culture (but ever so slowly) from the ideas that to be masculine is to be a predator and to be feminine is to be prey. If you want to know what true masculinity and true femininity are all you have to do is look to the history of those cultures (such as the native americans before white man) that were less civilized, socialized, and removed from their natural roles. I don't think the native american women spent all their time prettying themselves up for the seduction of their predator counterpart. They were tough, they moved around nomadically, they wrestled with the elements, they gave birth without anesthetics and they were as feminine as can be. I don't agree that men would be better men without the changes that resulted from the Women's rights movement. Should we swing the pendulum back the other way and have women wearing Burka and being stoned in public for cheating on their husbands. Or should we throw living women on the funeral pyre when their husbands die, like they used to do legally in India. Should we turn back the clock to where women couldn't vote, own property or decide for themselves when they wanted to have sex with their husbands. Every day, too many women fall victim to men who think that they are the predators and women are to be preyed on. I personally think a real man would never rape a woman and a gentle man is the only man that can eventually survive in a time of nuclear weapons and global destruction caused by the ego's of cowboy politicians who think they are being masculine by raping the earth. I just don't get how this predator/prey thing is part of the liberating work being done at the center, but I do know that where I have buttons so easy to push is where I am most likely to be surprised. So, enlighten me, please.
