I'm answering this long after you posted it cuz I just got this site address today!

I brought my puppy home when my cat was 6 years old. At first the cat would have nothing to do with the puppy, no matter how hard the puppy tried... and he got a couple cat claws in the nose for his trying.

Now, a year later, they are best buddies... they play together all the time. When Purrdy (the cat) gets tired of Bailee's (the dog) antics, she just jumps up somewhere high where Bailee can't reach her.

When I take Bailee for a walk on his leash, Purrdy always follows us.

When I stretch out on the sofa to watch TV or read, they fight over the coveted place to be lying... on my chest!

I was amazed at what happened a few weeks ago, when I was outside with both animals. We were in the front yard and I was looking at my flowers, when a stray miniature pinscher came running full speed towards Bailee. Immediately, the hair on Purrdy's back stood up and she growled and ran straight for the Min Pin who turned around and high-tailed it out of there. Purrdy then paced back and forth along the sidewalk in front of the house, back arched, hair standing on end, constantly looking back at Bailee to make sure he was ok. She didn't relax again until I took Bailee inside. I have never seen a cat protect a dog like that! Totally amazing!!

But back to your question... I think if you just leave the cat and puppy alone, they will sort out their own differences. Have fun with it!
