Like rugby league - refereeing and uniforms have evolved since the days of standard black boots. Wearing black boots is a bit too conservative. The growing customer need for white boots and other colors has caused companies such as Asics to decrease the amount of black boots they manufacture, so there are limited amounts of black boots available in shops these days.

If not wearing black boots is such a worry, we might as well go back to knee long shorts and long sleeve jerseys.
