Theresa,
You may be amused to know that I can get hives, not from vampire bites, but from the very thing that Dracula hates... garlic! There is a typical Teochew seasoning dip for fish dishes, made from garlic and vinegar ("Sng Ni Chor" in Teochew, literally "Garlic Mash Vinegar"). Whenever I take fish dipped in the seasoning, I get very bad hives in the mucosa membranes on my lips... fortunately it prevented me from eating more and getting that dangerous throat swelling!

I understand why Niacin (it is vitamin B3, by the way) aggravates the condition. Excessive Niacin intake can cause side effects including "niacin flush", characterised by burning itching skin. It is advisable not take Niacin in excess of 100mg per day. Better still avoid it if you have known sensitivity to it. Nevertheless, the small amounts we get daily from our proper meals should be enough for good functioning of brain nerves.

Thiamine (vitamin B1), Riboflavin (vitamin B2), Pyridoxine (vitamin B6), and Cobalamin (vitamin B12) are generally safe. Neurotonin, another well-known supplement, is a combination of B1, B6 and B12. It is always good to check with the proper medical professional in any case.

I am glad that you have no hives for 2 years. Whatever you have tried must haave worked. Keep at it... if it aren't broken, don't fix it! ;)

Do you remember whre did you get your acupuncture treatment in Singapore? By the way, "sensei" is Japanese spelling for "teacher". The local dialect for TCM physician is "senseh"...it means "sir", and the same 2 Chinese characters are used for "mister" and "teacher".

Blesssed be
Alvin
