Date Posted: 16:22:07 02/06/05 Sun In reply to: Denise 's message, "Theresa" on 08:39:07 02/06/05 Sun Dear Denise, I am sorry if I had not been expressing well... I meant to tell Theresa that she had taken the Korean Ginseng (Panax coreensis) far too early. It's not about catching it in time. Furthermore, she had not taken the better choice of ginseng in her particular case. American Ginseng (Panax quinquefolium) taken after her illness symptoms had subsided would be better. It is not wise, according to TCM principles, to use a tonic in a coming illness. I know, the concept sounds contraditory to the common belief that we need to built up immunity to ward off a coming illness. But, do you know that one is already infected, even before symptoms show? All microbes need time to populate, hence there will be a symptomless 'incubation' period before the body succumb to these pathogenic microbes. Hence, to use a tonic just before an illness is as good as supplying more nutrients to the population of microbes already in the body. It would be better to cleanse the body off these microbes first. Then let the body rest after the 'battle' and finally supply nutrients to the recovering body (the rest is important, because without it the body is not ready to absorb any nutrients). By the way, the white pepper seeds grounded into powder and sparsely sprinkled onto the hot soup helps as a diaphoretic agent... to open up the perspiration pores, cooling the fever and also 'expel' pathogenic factors (according to TCM principles). Chers, to everyone's health! Alvin [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
