Subject: || simple pleasures ||

As he walked casually down main street, hands in his old jean pockets, Will peered into shop windows and doors. He was hungry, but he didn’t have very much money. It had taken him at least a week to raise enough to buy him a decent breakfast, maybe a coffee if he could. His black hair ruffled in the wind, it made him feel cold. William Leverett hated feeling cold, his blue-black flames usually worked from the inside-out, but he didn’t want to risk anything this time. He kept it hidden inside where it couldn’t warn the Neutrals of anything. They could be anywhere, he knew, and likely they were everywhere. After the death of his brother, he never was the same when it came to neutrals.

With slight hesitation, Will entered the Café. At the counter he ordered a coffee and sandwich and when he paid for his lunch, he quickly took a seat at an empty table. The cashier had looked down on his dirty face and clothing, but she hadn’t said anything. Receiving his order, he ate it in wonderfully slow bites: it wasn’t very often he got to enjoy a meal such as this, he was used to whatever people threw away or whatever small animal had risked it’s life near his home in the abandoned mines. Life was hard, but he was safe for now.
