Feminism is good as long as it defends women's rights and cares about social equality.

As a leveling way of life and female self-understanding it is a destructive ideology which corrupts social life.

So at best a woman becomes a mother figure, such as Anandamayi Ma, or this figure or that figure. And she teaches as the Mother, not as an emancipated person.

There is a mistake in viewpoint here. Is it important what others project on her or anyone else who takes up yoga? Anandamayee Ma is looked up to as a liberated yogini, not merely a mother figure. Shibendu says that the image of the "Mother" stands for a profound spiritual truth.

I do not see why a liberated person would care whether he or she is 'emancipated' according to social standards.

The article is from 1996 when the Neo-Advaita movement was still a bit more immature and fanatical than it is now. I think Andrew Cohen has somewhat changed course now and they have begun to broaden their outlook a bit.
