But part of being awake, is opening one's eyes a LOT in daily life and seeing one's unconscious behavior, words and actions. THAT is part of what Buddha meant.
I have a pet peeve (so now I can air it here!) with some people (all paths,Buddhist, SRF, LONG-term meditators etc.) who were obsessed with meditation, intellectualizing about spritiuality, etc. and were GROSSLY unconscious in their every day behaviors. I guess the famous ones have been mentioned here, also talking about non-famous people. So I'd advise to look at onesself more and maybe stop obsessing as much about techniques and third eyes or breath or whatever. THEN a person would be more enlightened, more awakened. Meditation is best for those who have done some of the fore-mentioned preliminaries or at least are doing them in conjuction.
