OLTL seems fundamentally incapable of giving viewers a payoff anymore, even if they end up pissing off and alienating their viewers in the process. And God HELP you if you manage to convince Da Mouse that you want the BS that they are currently doing to stop or that you want them to write the story with some kind of resolution that even SMELLS of payoff. You can count on them to find a way to give you what you wanted but make you very, very VERY sorry you asked.
I'll start WAAY back. It looked like Roger the Dodger was pretty serious about leaving OLTL during SISP. So, what do they do? They bring back Florencia to reprise TnT Stroll Part DUH. The obvious no-brainer solution was to simply write them off together. Yes, I know this sounds like heresy from a T&Ber, but WTF? Have Blair divorce Todd and get sole custody of the kids, have Todd crack up and leave town with Tea to deal with his emotional problems. SECRETS LITE, if you will. The TnTers would have lapped that shit up. Allow BLAIR to move on with a new love interest like Walker Lawrence. Later, allude to Todd's absence by saying that TnT got rehitched and are starting over together ELSEWHERE. Make it clear that T&B reached an amicable visitation agreement with Starr & Jack. Explain Starr and Jack's absences by the fact that they are out of town visiting Daddy. And move the story in Llanview the FUCK on!
But NO. They had to talk Roger into coming back so they could troll Blair with SAM. Then they have to RECAST Todd so they can troll Blair with KEVIN. Now, it's SPENCER. AND they have troll Todd with Margaret and smear us ALL with this Spawn O'Rape O'Todd fiasco. God forbid that Blair be likeable on her OWN. She must be the unfaithful skank unworthy of Todd's love.
David Fumero turned in his notice at the EXACT same time Erin Torpey did. They were RL BF and GF. They both campaigned to be paired together. TMFIIC just COULDN'T write a Cris and Jessica reunion and write them out of town TOGETHER?! Why the fuck NOT?! 'Cause God Forbid, it would smack of PAYOFF.
And DAMN, it was jarring to see Jessica transform from some sweet innocent INGENUE type to a pouting little sexpot. UGH.
Now, don't get me WRONG. I actually LIKE Bree Cheese. When she's TESS and not some vacant blonde bimbo glued to the hip of KRAPMAR's ASSTONIO. Yes, she has an obvious, more kewpie doll resemblance to Erin Torpey, but Viki HAS a sister with a daughter CLOSE to Jessica's age! So why not bring Bree on as SARAH ROBERTS?! You have sultry cheesecake who is part of a core family. Moreover, you could keep the Viki-Dorian inter-family feud alive by having Bree's SARAH face off with Melissa Gallo's ADRIANNA over various young men.
Sorry, MarcAl fans, but the BIGGEST mistake TMFIIC made was not writing them off TOGETHER. They were fine as a sweet, short-term romance. Mind you, they had the potential to be the Vinnie and Wanda Wolek of the New Millenium, but TMFIIC don't have the patience for that sort of shit. MarcAl was tarnished by this whole damned Heaven Can Wait storyline with THE SMURF presiding over the whole damned thing. There was such bad feeling over the vicious, wholesale slaughter of The Holdens, that once they changed Al Holden into Michael McBain, televisions all over the damned place clicked off.
I DO like NM, but not THAT much. I pretty much resented the firing of Michael Tipps, an actor who LOOKED like both FH and JDP to give him the role. But again...TMFIIC had a chance to create a new character for NM by making him BEN's son by that psycho GINA. Yeah, it would have recycled Cordero Robert's storyline, but that was approximately two decades ago. Marc/Ben's brat would have made just as good a story as MarcAl or M&M, IMO.
Am I the ONLY OLTL viewer who doesn't GAFF about Bo or Nora? I think BOTH these characters outlived their shelf life a long time ago and should have been written off with Sam. RSW looks older than Phil Carey right now and there seem to be absolutely NO hunky men around in the 40-50 yoa range on OLTL.
Imagine the fireworks if TMFIIC had just given IK's ROXY story to Lindsey and paired her with Max Holden. Imagine if they had just brought back John Loprieno and put Gabi with Cord. The idea that Gabrielle was TRULY Max's King Kong Lover and that they shared a child together would feed Lindsey's neurotic and jealous insecurities perfectly. Lindsey is a great mom and would have made a wonderful stepmom to Frank and Leslie Holden. Had they not SORASED River Carpenter, Starr would have some kids her own age to interact with and have a built in rival with the sweet Leslie Holden.
