This is a FANTASTIC thing to bring up. When I saw the show I kept thinking about the relationship between Garcin and his wife. Is Garcin's wife a victim? I'd definitely say she was not treated as a wife should be, and so I guess that makes her a victim in a way. However, as for her being a good model...I'd question that.

Remember how Garcin watched his wife as she fingered his suit coat with the bullet holes? He asked her why she doesn't cry. He asks her what she wants. She seems more obligated to that marriage than anything else and for me, obligation isn't really a great way live for your marriage. She's too disconnected, making her a bad model in my mind. She sticks with him, honoring her wedding vows, but she doesn't have any self-confidence or ambition, making her a bad model. I guess it's a little of both in different ways. Can I get any more politically ambiguous? Ah.

Does she compare to Jesus? I don't think she even comes close. I think the 'sacrifice' of each is motivated in drastically different ways.
