The peace is infuriating, but I don't think its about taking the high road. If you tell someone that you'll agree with them just to end the argument, you've effectively cut them off from conversation with you. This person knows you still do not agree, but now you are refusing to even talk about it. Of course this is infuriating, not because you've outdone precedent but you've actually exacerbated the problem. Things are more tense because there's less chance for actual peace.
This reminds me of when Jackson said Girard might agree with people just to keep the peace. Except Girard does this differently: he doesn't make it clear that he is agreeing just to keep the peace. That way, the other feels some form of victory, togetherness and can be satisfied that the argument is truly finished, not boiling beneath the surface.
