I think you pretty much answer it yourself: "the subject will either be disenchanted with the object or disenchanted with the model, but never with the imitative desire itself." I think it goes on until Child B gets sick to death of this cycle, at which point he grows furious with Child A or with the balls. Eventually, I suppose, the kid will realize that what frustrates him is not the appearance of more and more red balls, but the frequent change in the ball which Child A prefers. As I'm imagining this, this is when Child B tried to take the ball from Child A with greater speed and ire so that he can not only take the ball but defeat Child A before Child A has time to change his mind.
