Korea I found because it has gone through an economic miracle in a very short time tends to believe that all that glitters is gold. A lot of emphasis was placed on consumerism. The two major airlines Korea and Asiana were rejecting very attractive young women on grounds like their faces were not round enough, or unbelievabley their skin was not white enough. So yes there was an interest in the beauty market. Its just that I cannot accept the figure of 40% especially as you say ther are only 1200 plastic surgeans in a country of 49 million.
Now one other point you challenged me on was about the level of American influence behind all this.
Having worked abroad in developing countries, I have noticed that most of these countries although they profess to hate America still do their very best to impersonate her, in fashion etc, etc. Ironic isn't it. I still believe that even though there are increasing levels of artificial surgury in Asia it is because of American influence.

No I'll change that and say is it because of American influence.
