Not to diminish the Lordship of Jesus, but I'd like to think of the Lord as a friend. Now, if a friend asks me to do something, does it mean that I necessarily do it? No. It is within my right to say no. Does it mean that I am disrespecting my friend? No. In the same way, in my relationship with Christ, I might say, "No, I don't want to do this. Instead, let's do this." It's not that I don't care, I do care, but it is a kind of a partnership rather than a one-way relationship.

Well, that may be what you think, and you're free to express yourself like that.
But please note that the Lord Jesus is not just a friend or Lord, but also omniscient creator and benevolent love incarnate.
Where you say "No, that's what you want from me, but I don't want to do that", you'll always draw the short straw and will find that you should have taken the Lord's will in the end. Not only will your decision be more harmful for you than the Lord's will, it will also be costly and show you how alien you are actually from the Lord.

One doesn't disagree with the Lord God for nothing. Disagreeing with God has reasons, and I'd say the strongest reason is distrust. It should be noted here that while no mortal human is truly trustworthy, the Lord is 100%.
When the Lord lets you know His Will, He has the best for you in store. You can just do what He says, it will turn out well.

In this you somehow can not equal man and God, but you don't take the Lord's Will, you'll regret it.

And now we come back to husband and wife.
Husbands are not omniscient. Neither are wives.
But when the husband, (precondition), truly loving and caring for his wife, asks the wife to do/say/believe something, then the wife would be well advised to follow that, otherwise she has to give to her husband her reasons for not abiding in his will, and wait for the husband to make up his mind.
To let the husband give a wife his will and the wife not following that will quickly boil down to distrust.

In the long term, where will a relation go with distrust?
At least not to the harmonic union we are to have, according to the Bible.

Now, many people may wonder if a husband must always have the final word on a matter.
I'd say: not openly, but when the final word is disagreement between wife and husband, then they have a communication problem.
If a wife is more wise and intelligent than her husband, she better learn to make her musings clear to her husband, and if a wife isn't, then she would be well advised to listen to her husband anyways.

Again, this assumes that the role of the husband in the family is that of the benevolent provider, zealous lover, calming comforter etc.
If that isn't, then the precondition isn't applicable and as such, we don't even need to talk about biblical submission.

In Christ,
Mike K.
