Please tell us why you respect them dearly. You have been around for many years, I would think you can tell the real from the unreal by now. You are suspictious, so what is it about these people that commands you not only to respect them but to respect them dearly.

Well, Tony, I want to be brief yet clear.

When I was a teen, I wasn't raised Christian, all religions had equal attraction to me (though Buddhism fascinated me most).
I had an exchange year in the U.S., and I had a host family who were active members of the "Local Church". During my entire year there, nothing ever was anything fishy. Much rather, through my time there, I saw that the Christian faith is "the way to go" for me, I've come to know Christ, I've come to change my personality radically (though only in positive terms: I became honest, thankful, open, outgoing, talkative - even though none of these were virtues I excelled in before. None of these as "eye-service" or directed towards men, but all out of a deep, inner appreciation fo the Lord Jesus Christ).
I received balance by these people, maybe they kept me from becoming a religious zealot but accepting in tolerance those who would not share my faith.
They also got me out of UBF, but not by fishing me into their nets but by enabling me to experience and exercise my own freedom in Christ.
They taught me to have my own understanding of the Bible, not one that was dictated to me by others, though their concern for orthodoxy balanced me many a times when I nearly fell into error.

And in all this, there was not just 2 or 3 people, but probably 20 or more involved.
None of these had the special intention of binding me to a specific religious system, but they are happy and content to know that I'm a growing Christian who is taking his life before the Lord seriously.

And this is where the respect is coming from. They have shown to me a pattern, an exemplary Christian life, and have brought me onto that which I consider "the right track".

It gets strange when you consider that these same people are all part of a religious system which is based on a lot of presumptuousness, cover-up, deceit and straight-out lies.
Everything with the name "brother Lee" sounds fishy to me nowadays, knowing that this guy was probably even a category worse than Sam Lee from UBF, and in dictatorial control of all that happened in the Local Churches around the globe, even without ever having been there or having given a directive.

Well, my reason to ask why this initial passage appeared fishy to me was for reasons Joe and Chris already hooked in: the top leaders of this group teach what I perceive to be a wrong understanding of salvation.
And such wrong teachings can permeate the entire group, without ever being spoken out by the members.

In Christ,
Mike K.
