I see your point and there is certainly truth in it.
However, reality is unfortunately somewhat different from the ideal, theoretical image of the US you are painting. Unfortunately, American nationalism IS often based on ethnic pride. Colored people are still 2nd class citizens in the US. Maybe not on the paper, but in reality. Or would you disagree and claim that after Martin Luther King everything is perfect?
The problem with nationalism is that it only looks for the best for YOUR nation. it is a kind of "egoism" of a nation. I think it is ok to love your own nation. But I believe the highest Christian command also implies to "love the other nations as much as you love your own."
